Some 70.3 million metric tons of cargo moved through Port Metro Vancouver during first half 2015. That was up 1.5 percent from a year ago, thanks to increases in wheat, sulfur and consumer goods traffic, according to data released by the port authority.

The Port of Vancouver USA and its partners on August 13 cut the ribbon on a $30 million rail entrance. The so called "trench" is a key element of the port’s $275 million West Vancouver Freight Access project, which eliminates conflicts arising from trains entering the port and triples the port’s rail capacity.
