The Duluth Seaway Port Authority is expanding the role of one of its management team members, reassigning duties of others, and looking to hire a facilities manager in September. The board of commissioners of the Port of Lake Charles recently selected officers for 2015-2016, including Barbara M. McManus, president: Daryl V. Burckel, vice president; Dudley R. Dixon, secretary/treasurer; and Michael G. Eason, assistant secretary/treasurer.

In a series of votes on August 4, commissioners from the ports of Tacoma and Seattle formally launched The Northwest Seaport Alliance. Their action unifies the ports’ marine cargo terminal investments, operations, planning and marketing with the objective of strengthening the Puget Sound gateway and attracting more marine cargo to the region.

The Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) marked a project milestone August 4 as construction workers placed the first rail lines for the new Intermodal Container Transfer Facility (ICTF) at Dames Point. The Philadelphia Regional Port Authority (PRPA) intends to issue a Request for Qualifications this September for the Southport Marine Terminal Complex, the first major expansion of the Port of Philadelphia in more than 50 years. A dredging contractor has begun excavating a new channel at Port Fourchon. Slip D will be 1,000 feet wide and nearly 4,000 feet long and is designed to serve the needs of the offshore supply vessels that frequent the port.

Port Canaveral will be homeport for Norwegian Cruise Line’s largest ship, the 4,100-passenger capacity Norwegian Epic, in November 2016, offering seven-day Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries, as well as three- and four-day cruises to the Bahamas.

The Canadian federal government will contribute up to C$5 million toward the cost of installing shore power at the Port of Montreal. The project costing a total of C$11 million will include two systems – the first a shore power connection for cruise ships at the Alexandra Pier and the other a four-connection system for ships wintering over in Montreal.

The Port of Hueneme will receive more than $532,020 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security through the Fiscal Year 2015 Port Security Grant Program. The funds will provide multi-functional applications protecting critical port and regional infrastructure. Port Manatee will use a newly awarded $326,250 federal security grant to reinforce its recovery and resiliency capabilities.
