Maersk Line commenced calling the Port of Jacksonville with the July 16 arrival of the container ship As Mariana at JAXPORT’s Blount Island Marine Terminal. German ocean carrier Hamburg Süd has returned to PortMiami with a weekly service linking south Florida with the Chinese ports of Qingdao, Ningbo, and Shanghai via the Panama Canal.

The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development has awarded the Port of Port Angeles a $2 million grant to retrofit a building that will house industrial and workforce training facilities for the Composite Recycling Technology Center. The project will create an estimated 111 jobs.

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the Port of San Diego for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2014. Preliminary reports for the fiscal year ending June 31 indicate that the Port of Virginia will post an operating profit of $16.1 million, its first since 2008 and a $31.5 million improvement compared to FY 2014.

A little more than 1.7 million metric tons of cargo was shipped through the Port of Redwood City during the fiscal year ending June 30, 2015. That was down 3.8 percent from FY 2014, but still the fourth highest tonnage total in the port’s modern history.

The Canadian federal government is joining Port Metro Vancouver in funding shore power facilities for container vessels at the port authority’s Delta Port and Centerm container terminals. Both are expected to be operational by March 31, 2017.
