A local petroleum company will bring a brand new product to Anchorage this year. Delta Western, Inc., ceremoniously broke ground April 30 on a new refined petroleum storage facility at the Port of Anchorage. The first product to be offered will be methanol for use on the North Slope oil fields.

Port of Long Beach
Four new Super Post-Panamax wharf cranes for the Barbours Cut Container Terminal were delivered to the Port of Houston on May 5. Their arrival was timely, coming as the port authority was reporting double-digit container traffic growth for March and first quarter 2015.

The Port of Jacksonville (JAXPORT) began service as Volkswagen’s Southeastern U.S. distribution hub on April 29, when nearly 1,000 new Jettas, Beetles and Golfs rolled ashore at the port authority’s Blount Island Marine Terminal.  M/V BBC Coral docked at the Port of San Francisco’s Pier 80 Omni Terminal last week carrying the first two of three large spools of electrical cable and other equipment for upgrades to Pacific Gas &Electric’s (PG&E) electrical system in San Francisco.

The ports of Tacoma and Seattle have released a draft final agreement to unify their marine cargo terminal investments, operations, planning and marketing under the proposed Northwest Seaport Alliance. The goal is to "make our organizations stronger and more sustainable to better serve our customers, grow our regional economy and address unprecedented competition facing the shipping industry."

Port of Longview Chief Executive Officer Geir-Eilif Kalhagen was recently elected vice president of the America’s region of the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH). Port of Oakland Commercial Real Estate Director Pamela Kershaw and Chief Financial Officer Sara Lee have been named the 2015 Most Influential Women in Business in the San Francisco Bay area.

Port Everglades reports container volumes totaling 545,194 TEUs during the first six months of the fiscal year that began October 1, 2014. That was up 9.7 percent from the year-earlier total of 496,803 TEUs, putting the port on track to its second consecutive record year. The container business is booming at PortMiami, with increases from a year ago of 15 percent in March and 12 percent for the first six months of the fiscal year that began October 1, 2014.

Higher containerized cargo and passenger volumes at Port Everglades helped to increase the number of jobs and economic activity in Florida during the past fiscal year, according to a newly released economic impact study. The study compares figures from fiscal years 2013 and 2014 based on customized models developed for the port’s cruise and cargo sectors.
