The board of commissioners for the Port of Greater Baton Rouge recently elected officers for 2015, including Clint Seneca, president; Corey Sarullo, vice president; Bobby Watts, secretary; and Evans "Jimmy" Sanchez, treasurer. Canadian Transport Minister Lisa Raitt on March 5 announced the appointments of Chris Badger, Audrey Cope, Donna Hais, and Moira Jenkins to the board of directors of the Nanaimo Port Authority.

The Port of Houston Authority expects to commit $275 million for various capital projects in 2015, including container terminal development and modernization and general and bulk cargo facility improvements. Maher Terminals Holding Corp., operator of Prince Rupert’s Fairview Container Terminal, will to proceed with expansion of the 7-year-old facility, increasing its container capacity by 500,000 TEUs by 2017.

Carnival Elation will offer year-round, four- and five-day cruises from the Jacksonville Port Authority’s North Jacksonville cruise terminal beginning April 23, 2016, replacing JAXPORT’s current homeported ship, Carnival Fascination.

To help its terminals quickly work through a backlog of cargo, the Port of Long Beach is extending by six months the operation of a temporary container storage facility located on the port’s undeveloped Pier S. A new Peel Off" program that expedites cargo by streamlining container moves is speeding up operations at the Port of Los Angeles. The Port of Virginia has begun began capturing and reporting traditional and total turn times for motor carriers transacting business at Norfolk International Terminals and Virginia International Gateway.

The Port of San Diego pumps more than $7.6 billion a year into the region from employment, sales, and purchases of goods and services, according to the findings of a newly released economic impact analysis of 2013 data.   Among its other findings, more than 33,000 jobs are located on San Diego’s tidelands, generating more than $4.4 billion in direct economic output.

The Port of Vancouver USA  reports 2014 was a banner year. Operating revenue reached a record $37.5 million, up 25 percent from 2013, while cargo throughput jumped 47 percent to an all-time high of 6.6 million metric tons.

Buoyed by strong reviews from three leading bond ratings agencies, the Virginia Port Authority (VPA) earlier this month completed the sale of $141.8 million of port facilities revenue refunding bonds. Refinancing will result in net savings to the port authority of $14.7 million, according to CEO John F. Reinhart.
