The Georgia Ports Authority announced that the primary distributor of Hyper Bicycles, a company that produces high-end BMX racing frames and components, has selected the Port of Savannah as its gateway for reaching customers in the U.S. Southeast. ZIM Integrated Shipping Ltd. formally introduced a new weekly container shipping service to the Port of New Orleans' Napoleon Avenue Container Terminal. In Florida, Royal Caribbean International will be deploying a second ship at the Port of Tampa beginning in the fall of 2014.

The Port of Sept-Îles has partnered with several local agencies to create an environmental observatory that will acquire credible baseline data about the local marine ecosystem. In San Diego, volunteers removed more than 45,000 pounds of trash and debris from local shores in the Port of San Diego's 23rd annual Operation Clean Sweep.

On August 27-28, AAPA, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and the New York Shipping Association (NYSA) partnered to host an Influencers Roundtable and Media Tour of marine terminals, on-dock rail facilities, operations control centers and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) operations. Taking advantage of a quiet news cycle in Washington, D.C., AAPA worked with the port authority and the NYSA to bring together leaders on transportation, infrastructure and trade to discuss policy issues of importance to the entire U.S. port industry and to educate Washington- and New York area-based reporters about the role that ports play in the U.S. economy and the challenges they face.

The Port of Long Beach recently announced $2.6 million in community grants to improve air quality in and around the local community. The Port of Seattle unveiled details about this year's Port 101 community education series, which kicks off on September 12. In Ohio, the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority dedicated a new industrial park to the people who worked at the site when it used to manufacture military Jeeps, Jeep Wranglers and Jeep Cherokees.
