The Alabama State Port Authority is purchasing two industrial tracts to accommodate its rapidly growing intermodal business. Construction began April 23 on voestalpine Texas’ $740 million hot briquetted iron (HBI) facility at Port Corpus Christi’s La Quinta Trade Gateway. Mill Steel Co. will establish a 225,000 square-foot flat rolled steel service center at the Ohio River Port of Indiana-Jeffersonville. TCU Plastics will develop a 500,000 square-foot logistic facility at its France Road hub in the Port of New Orleans.

Crystal Cruises will offer its first-ever scheduled embarkation sailing from the Port of Baltimore on November 8, 2014. Carnival Miracle’s April 28 arrival at Canada Place marked the start of Port Metro Vancouver’s 2014 Alaska cruise season. The 2014 cruise season opened May 3 at the Port of Seattle with the dockings of Holland America Line’s Westerdam and Princess Cruises’ Golden Princess at Smith Cove Cruise Terminal.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently made available a $750,000 grant for the Port of Baltimore’s Dray Truck Replacement Program, effectively extending the program through March 2016. The Canaveral Harbor Inlet Sand Bypass Project has earned the top state ranking for 2014-2015 inlet management funding.

The Port of Montreal is the recipient of an Étoile d’Or trophy for cultivating a strong trading relationship with Belgium. Mississippi State Port Authority at Gulf Port
Former Stockton port commissioner W. Ronald Coale passed away April 17 at the age of 81. He was born in Stockton, attended local schools, graduated from Stockton College and held a teaching certificate in the field of transportation and distribution from the University of California at Berkeley. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served in the United States Army from 1952-1954.
