Containerized retail goods imports should be up 6.1 percent and continued monthly gains are likely at least through August, according to the latest Global Port Tracker report. Auto, container and wood pulp traffic set records in 2013 at Baltimore's public marine terminals 2013, according to the Maryland Port Administration. The Georgia Ports Authority reports cargo throughput at its terminals statewide jumped 15.5 percent in March to a monthly high of 2.61 million short tons.

Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee joined other dignitaries March 31 in celebrating the first delivery of imported Honda automobiles to the Port of Davisville. CMA CGM is returning one of its container ships to service to the Port of Montreal. The Toronto Port Authority (TPA) on April 8 officially welcomed the first ocean vessel, or "saltie," of 2014 to dock at the Port of Toronto. The Virginia Port Authority's Portsmouth Marine Terminal (PMT) is back in business, this time as a staging area for automobiles that will be exported to China.

The Port of Hueneme has been awarded a $500,000 Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) grant by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The Port of San Diego's shore power system at the Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal was selected in March as a public works 2014 Project of the Year by the American Public Works Association. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on April 2 presented a 2014 Clean Air Excellence Award to the Port of Seattle in recognition of its Seaport Air Quality Program. The Port of Virginia has received a $750,000 EPA grant that will be used toward the purchase of three pieces of low-emission, hybrid cargo-handling equipment.

In a move to strengthen its Latin American trading ties, Port Corpus Christi on April 7 signed a memorandum of understanding with a Colombian port entity, Palermo Sociedad Portuaria (PSP). The Port of Kalama Commission on April 9 voted to approve a lease agreement with NW Innovation Works (NWIW) to build and operate a manufacturing plant on port property that would produce methanol from natural gas after receiving environmental and regulatory approvals.

The Port of Los Angeles' export education program Trade Connect has received two awards from NASBITE – the National Association of Small Business International Trade Educators. Port Metro Vancouver has received recognition for strong sustainability performance by placing fourth in Corporate Knights' first Future 40 Responsible Corporate Leaders in Canada ranking. Fitch Ratings has reaffirmed Port Tampa Bay’s credit rating of A- and has provided the authority with a "Stable" outlook.
