Puerto Rosario is an important cargo center located on the Parana River about 340 miles upstream from the Atlantic Ocean. It is accessible by ocean going vessels via a 34-foot deep channel. The port handles approximately 3.5 million metric tons of cargo annually, much of it grain and grain products but also including steel, fertilizer, vegetable oils, and cement. Container throughput in 2013 totaled 23,118 TEUs.

Founded in 1992, Consejo Portuario Argentino-Asociación Civil promotes the development and expansion of fluvio-maritime port activity by petitioning and acting before national, provincial and municipal agencies authorities and other public and private entities on matters pertaining to the interests of the Argentine port industry.

Mr. Brian J. Preski was chairman of the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority from 2000-2007.

The deadline for submitting entries into AAPA's 2014 Communications Awards Program is Thursday, May 1. Winning entries from this year's competition will be announced in early June. The awards will be presented during AAPA's 103rd Annual Convention and Expo, which is set for November 9-13 in Houston.

The Port of Hueneme last week successfully conducted the first operational and safety vessel test of its newly installed grid-based shore power system. The Port of Long Beach has awarded a $176,045 grant to install solar photovoltaic panels for electricity generation at a Long Beach Rescue Mission facility.
