Canaveral Port Authority Commissioners on March 19 approved a new 10-year marine terminal operating and lease agreement with Morton Salt that paves the way to expansion of the company's operations in Port Canaveral. Blount Small Ship Adventures will originate a Bay of Fundy cruise itinerary from Port Saint John in the summer of 2015. ZIM is now offering a Richmond (VA) bill of lading to the shipping public.

Port Canaveral's first ship-to-shore cranes arrived March 21 after a 325-mile journey via barge from the Port of Savannah. St. George Warehouse recently opened a 160,000-square-foot distribution center close to the Georgia Port Authority's Garden City Terminal in the Port of Savannah. A groundbreaking ceremony March 18 marked the start of a new improvements project at Piers 34 and 35 in the Port of Honolulu.

Mississippi-based American Log Handlers (ALH) is now exporting southern yellow pine logs to China through the Port of Jacksonville. The first frozen boneless Uruguayan lamb to be imported into the U.S. market since 2001, arrived at Philadelphia's Packer Avenue Marine Terminal on March 6.

The Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority reports unaudited financial results indicate that 2013 was one of its best years on record, with cargo tonnage and development revenue exceeding budget targets by double-digit margins. The Port of Los Angeles reports container throughput fell 8.9 percent in February, mainly due to the Chinese New Year, which closed many factories in Asia for two to three weeks.

James R. McCarville will retire June 28 after 20 years as executive director of the Port of Pittsburgh Commission. Cynthia Hampton is retiring in May after more than 15 years as director of finance and development for the Port of Redwood City.

The Port of Corpus Christi Authority reaffirmed its Memorandum of Understanding with Sociedad Portuaria de Santa Marta (SPSM) during a visit on March 17 to Corpus Christi by a delegation from Santa Marta headed by SPSM General Manager Mauricio Suárez. The University of New Orleans (UNO) and the Port of New Orleans have entered into a five-year agreement aimed at assessing the port's activities in order to achieve greater sustainability. A Port of Palm Beach tenant is providing free ocean freight, loading costs and transportation of a pontoon boat that will be used as a floating classroom in Haiti.
