In Mississippi, Jackson County supervisors authorized the borrowing of up to $24 million for the Port of Pascagoula to build a specialized wood pellet exporting facility on Bayou Casotte, which will be supplemented by an additional $14 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery discretionary grant program.

 The Hamilton Port Authority released a new infographic that details the port's cargo, economic, community and environment impacts in a compelling visual way. Port Saint John, in partnership with PALS (Partners Assisting Local Schools) and the Anglophone South School District, is launching lesson plans about the port and maritime industries. The Tampa Port Authority and the Florida Department of Transportation reported the success of the commemorative "Run the Connector" 5K run on December 28, following the ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the approaching opening of the I-4/Selmon Expressway Connector project.

PortMiami, the world's busiest cruise port, again surpassed the 4 million mark for cruise passengers traveling through its facilities in the Fiscal Year ending September 30, 2013. Montreal Port Authority (MPA) President and CEO Sylvie Vachon officially inaugurated the start of a new year of activity at the Port of Montreal today by presenting the Gold-Headed Cane to Captain Vijayendra Gurukant Chodankar, of India, master of the Federal Spey, the first ocean-going vessel to enter the Port of Montreal without a stopover in 2014.
