The Port of Bellingham has joined the City of Bellingham and Whatcom County in establishing a unified emergency operations center (EOC) near the port-owned Bellingham International Airport. The Port of Hueneme on November 27 hosted an Offshore Platform Security Threat Awareness and Response Program exercise (OPSTAR) conducted by the Naval Postgraduate School’s Center for Asymmetric Warfare and the U.S. Coast Guard.

Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber has appointed and the Oregon Senate Rules Committee has confirmed Robert E. Garcia and Brianna S. Hanson as members of the board of commissioners of the Oregon International Port of Coos Bay. The Long Beach City Council has confirmed Mayor Bob Foster’s appointment of the city’s former chief financial officer (CFO), to the Board of Harbor Commissioners, which oversees the Port of Long Beach and the staff of the City’s Harbor Department. The Nanaimo Port Authority has implemented some important staff changes, including the promotion of David Mailloux to manager, communication and public affairs.

The Port of Brownsville has been awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). The Port of Everett Commission on November 26 approved a $64 million 2014 operating and capital budget that invests in business operations, environmental cleanup projects and construction projects.

A major reconstruction project has substantially enhanced JAXPORT’s heavy-lift cargo handling capabilities. The board of commissioners of the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey on December 4 approved a $105 million upgrade of five major access roads to the agency’s New Jersey marine terminals. Brasil Terminal Portuário (BTP),a container terminal with an annual throughput capacity of 1.2 million TEUs, officially opened for business at the Port of Santos on November 28 with a gala celebration attended by Brazilian Seaport Minister Antonio Henrique Silveira and 500 invited guests and media representatives.

The Port of Palm Beach and Tropical Shipping USA LLC have reached an agreement to extend the ocean container carrier’s lease at the port by five years. Port Everglades on November 29 welcomed global ocean carrier Hamburg Süd’s first shipment of imported Peruvian grapes as part of the recently approved pilot program allowing South American fruit to be directly imported into the United States through South Florida ports.
