Real estate executive Glen Bachman was elected to the Everett Port Commission on November 5. Experienced foreign policy professional and author Nancy Soderberg has joined the JAXPORT Board of Directors, and Jacksonville City Council members also approved the mayor’s reappointment of immediate past Chairman James Citrano for a second term on the board. The Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners held its first meeting November 21 with four of the five-member panel newly appointed by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti.

Cruiseport Boston completed its 2013 season with a record-breaking 382,885 cruise vacationers, reports the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport). The Port of Green Bay reports cargo tonnage for the year through October was up 11 percent from the comparable period of 2013. At the Port of Houston Authority, Executive Director Leonard Waterworth noted that October was a solid month for containers and steel with a decline in bulk cargo. Containerized cargo continued its upward trend at the Port of Long Beach in October, with volume rising 8.7 percent from a year ago to 576,502 TEUs. The Virginia Port Authority reports October was a record breaker for container traffic and the second best month ever for rail volumes at its marine terminals in the Port of Hampton Roads.

A dome erected earlier this month marked the start of construction of the wood pellet terminal project in the Anse au Foulon sector in the Port of Québec. The Port of Stockton dedicated M-580 – the Northern California Marine Highway – in a ceremony on November 1. The Port of Tampa recently completed an impressive project cargo move – the unloading of large process units for the NexLube re-refining plant that is currently under construction at the port.

The Port of Tacoma has promoted Dakota Chamberlain, its former engineering director, to chief facilities development officer and Thais Howard, a senior project manager, to engineering director, making her the first woman to lead the department.

The Hamilton Port Authority (HPA) is sponsoring a cargo and capacity matching service, MarineGateway.net, that provides a simplified way to move bulk, breakbulk and project cargo by connecting shippers with available vessel capacity. The first shipment of fresh citrus from Uruguay to be imported into the United States arrived November 18 at Packer Avenue Marine Terminal in the Port of Philadelphia.

The 2014 Budget and Draft Plan of Finance approved by the Port of Seattle commission on November 19 forecasts total operating revenues for 2014 of $538.1 million, expenses of $323.4 million, and net operating income before depreciation of $214.7 million.
