Activities of the Port of Grays Harbor’s marine terminals, marina, airport and industrial properties generated more than 5,700 jobs and $564 million in business revenues, according to a consultant’s analysis of 2013 data. A report released by the Port of Port Angeles shows potential gains in employment, income and business taxes stemming from the port’s proposed composite recycling center. The Port of San Diego’s newest educational video focuses on the industrial and maritime waterfront of San Diego Bay.

Port of Long Beach
Double-digit growth in total tonnage and a record number of auto and machinery units highlighted FY 2014 at Georgia’s Port of Brunswick, The Port of Virginia reports container volume totaling 201,113 TEUs in September, up 8.6 percent from a year ago and the third consecutive month when the container count exceeded 200,000 TEUs.

AAPA conducted its 25th annual Marine Terminal Management Training Program on October 6-10, hosted by the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority (PRPA). The program focused on the wide range of terminal operations located on port authority properties. The audience showed significant diversity with attendees from as far away as Ecuador, Argentina and Nova Scotia. Former AAPA Chair Lillian Borrone was a featured luncheon speaker and encouraged attendees to approach their seaport work "with passion, dedication and integrity." Tours were conducted at a number of area maritime terminals on PRPA property. The week long program was capped off by team presentations addressing a series of questions on a wide range of strategic marine terminal questions.

Transportation Technology Associates
The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners has directed Port of Long Beach staff to develop plans for purchasing and providing thousands of truck chassis for congestion relief during peak periods. Port Metro Vancouver will begin a last round of consultation to finalize details of its new Truck Licensing System, a part of the Joint Action Plan announced by the federal and provincial governments in March 2014.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has awarded a $12.8 million contract for maintenance dredging of the Redwood City Harbor and Channel. An advanced manufacturing facility is poised to be the first development in the Port of Vancouver USA’s Centennial Industrial Park (CIP).

Moody’s Investors Service has upgraded Canaveral Port Authority’s $30.2 million in outstanding revenue bonds to A2 from A3 and rated its financial outlook stable. The Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority’s board of directors has agreed to provide up to $161 million to support the combined refinancings of four previous economic development projects and to accept a federal homeland security grant.

Norwegian Cruise Line returned to Houston with the October 11 docking of its Norwegian Jewel at the port authority’s Bayport Cruise Terminal in Pasadena (TX). Last year marked the 25th anniversary of cruise in Saint John; last week, the port welcomed its 1,000th cruise ship call since 1989. Port of Seattle received179 vessel calls and 823,780 revenue passengers in 2014, more than initially forecast but down from prior year totals; 192 vessel calls and 895,055 revenue passengers are expected in 2015.

A new direct, weekly shipping service is offering a direct two-way connection between Mexico and U.S. markets for refrigerated produce and other goods via the ports of Port Manatee in Florida and Coatzacoalcos in the state of Veracruz. Both ports are AAPA Corporate members.
