Port of Long Beach Chief Executive Jon Slangerup on Thursday unveiled ambitious plans for congestion-beating smart systems for cargo movement and an all-out push to achieve energy resilience for port operations with wind turbines, solar cells and other clean technologies, in his first-ever "State of the Port" address. With a crowd of about 300 port stakeholders, community leaders and elected officials on hand for Port Tampa Bay's State of the Port event, President and CEO Paul Anderson recapped a successful year of partnerships and economic development, while providing a road map for future business and infrastructure plans.

The addition of new shipping services and an uptick in the national economy contributed to record container volumes at the Port of New Orleans in 2014. Final cargo figures for 2014, compiled by the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority (PRPA), reveal that 5,950,319 metric tons of cargo were handed at the Port of Philadelphia’s maritime facilities in 2014, a 16.66 percent increase compared to the 5,100,385 tons of cargo handled in 2013. The Port of Redwood City experienced a 5 percent increase in cargo movement across its docks for the first half of fiscal year 2014-2015 that ended December 31, 2015.

 The Port of Portland and Working Waterfront Coalition presented $20,000 to the Portland Community College Foundation to support scholarships for the Industrial Jobs Training Program. The Port of San Diego is hosting a monumental temporary public art exhibit, "Our Silences" by the Mexican artist Rivelino, that was officially unveiled January 29 at Ruocco Park near downtown San Diego.
