Frank Brogan, managing director of the Port of Corpus Christi Authority, will retire February 2 after more than 40 years with the port as a consultant and an employee.  Mayor Eric Garcetti on January 21 announced that Doane Liu, deputy mayor for city services, will become deputy executive director and chief of staff at the Port of Los Angeles, effective February 1.  Lane Ramsfield on January 26 took up his responsibilities as Port Tampa Bay’s new vice president of real estate.

Gulf States Cold Storage, an exporter of export of poultry, beef, pork and seafood, as well as some frozen vegetables, is adding a 55,000 square-foot to its facility near the Georgia Ports Authority’s Garden City container terminal in the Port of Savannah. Just over two years after being approved by the U.S. Department of Commerce, PortMiami’s Foreign Trade Zone No. 281 has 27 approved sites with more than 3.0 million square feet of warehousing and logistics space. Port of Vancouver USA commissioners have approved a 10-year lease extension with Northwest Packing Co. that could keep the fruit processor in Vancouver through 2024.

Port of Long Beach
The Georgia Ports Authority ended 2014 with growth in all cargo sectors, including a 10.2 percent increase in  TEUs and a 7.4 percent increase in total tonnage. Year-over-year import cargo volume at the largest U.S. containerized import cargo handling ports should grow during most of the first half of 2015 despite West Coast port congestion issues, predicts the monthly Global Port Tracker report released January 9 by the National Retail Federation and Hackett Associates. Container throughput at the San Pedro Harbor ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles reached a seven-year high in 2014 of nearly 15.2 million TEU. Container volumes through Puget Sound’s largest container ports remained flat in 2014, according to numbers released jointly for the first time by the ports of Seattle and Tacoma.
