The annual environmental performance review of Green Marine indicates that the maritime transportation industry continues to exceed regulatory requirements by a substantial margin. The Port of Long Beach was as the "Best Green Seaport" in the world at the 28th Annual Asian Freight & Supply Chain Awards hosted in Shanghai by Cargonews Asia. Representatives from seven U.S. West Coast ports recognized the need to incorporate sustainable attributes into port planning, design, construction and post-construction operations and recently developed a compendium of sustainable design and construction guidelines.

The Port of Green Bay experienced a 30,000 ton jump in cargo throughput this May. The Port of Los Angeles reports May container volume increased 7.2 percent from a year ago to 689,141 TEUs. Business is booming at the Port of Philadelphia, with indicators pointing to a fifth consecutive year of double-digit cargo growth.

Federal, state and local leaders on June 17 joined the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) leadership along the St. Johns River in downtown Jacksonville to mark the start of the pre-construction, engineering and design phase of the Jacksonville Harbor Deepening Project. The Canadian federal government would contribute C$3million to a project aimed at reducing trucker wait times by using new technologies to better link operations across Port Metro Vancouver's four terminals.
