The Maryland Port Administration (MPA) recently received the Presidential "E Star" Award for excellence in export service during a ceremony at the U.S. Department of Commerce in Washington, D.C., with Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker. The Coast Guard recently awarded the Rear Admiral Richard E. Bennis Award to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for outstanding achievements and contributions related to implementation of the Maritime Transportation Security Act and other maritime security best practices in safeguarding our nation’s maritime transportation system.

Port Freeport officials are encouraged by the affirmation of the prior "A" rating and stable outlook by Standard & Poor’s Rating Services, based on the port’s senior-lien revenue refunding bonds and revenue notes. The Government Finance Officers Association has awarded the Port of Tacoma its Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the port’s 2014 budget document.

After Florida Gov. Rick Scott’s recent signing of a funding package, Port Tampa Bay will now have the funds to purchase new post-Panamax gantry cranes to expand throughput capacity at the port’s growing container terminal – a $12 million boon for the state’s largest and most diversified port. Port Tampa Bay’s strategic investment in post-Panamax cranes will enable it to serve the ever increasing container vessels being deployed by the regional and global carriers.

Port Metro Vancouver recently announced the award of 13 shipping and three cruise lines with a Blue Circle Award for 2013. The Blue Circle Award recognizes and rewards vessel operators for their environmental choices, by honoring actions that reduce air emissions and celebrating environmental stewardship. As part of Port Metro Vancouver’s EcoAction Program, shipping lines can benefit from a discount of up to 47 percent on harbor dues by choosing a variety of eligible fuels, technology options and environmental management practices.

The Port of New Orleans is currently featured in a five-minute segment on "Business Day with Terry Bradshaw," which showcases recent port expansion projects, such as the $40.3 million Riverfront Cold Storage Facility operated by New Orleans Cold Storage on the Henry Clay Wharf, the $20.1 million renovation of the Julia Street Cruise Terminal, the $36.4 million Napoleon Avenue Container Terminal expansion project that added two new gantry cranes and expanded the terminal’s marshalling yard, Transportation Consultants Inc.’s expanded resin-packaging facility, and the under-construction Mississippi River Intermodal Terminal.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott recently signed into law a major overhaul of Port Canaveral’s 60-year-old charter, which resulted from a nine-month community review and input process and received bipartisan legislative support. It is the first complete review and analysis of charter revisions in the port's history.
