The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey approved Royal Caribbean’s plans to build a new cruise terminal in Bayonne, where it will base its new Quantum of the Seas beginning in 2014. Tampa Port Authority CEO Paul Anderson and Ports America President Tom Perdue recently signed a letter of intent that will continue an already strong working relationship in the handling of general cargoes. The Vancouver (WA) Port Commission on July 23 unanimously approved a 10-year lease with the Tesoro-Savage Joint Venture (TSJV) for a crude oil handling facility.

In Alabama, two trees owned by the state port authority have been designed as 2013 Champion Trees by the Alabama Forestry Commission. In Southern California, the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles honored five companies for their extraordinary efforts to fight harmful emissions at the 6th Annual Clean Air Action Plan Air Quality Awards.

The Port of Beaumont was recently recognized by the Railway Industrial Clearance Association as America’s most improved port. The Georgia Ports Authority reported record highs for cargo tonnage, bulk cargo, auto/machinery units and intermodal rail freight moves in the recently ended fiscal year. On the West Coast, the Port of Hueneme also reported records in cargo handling, with metric tonnage up 9.2 percent from the previous year. In the first half of 2013, Mexico’s port system saw an increase of 2.5 percent from a year ago. In Norfolk, Moody’s Investors Service and Standard & Poor’s have affirmed the strength of $274 million in outstanding port facilities revenue bonds issued by the Virginia Port Authority.
