A discussion on cybersecurity and grants management will be featured at the Port Security and Smart Ports Seminar & Expo in San Diego, Calif., July 12-14, 2022. This session will explore approved cybersecurity resiliency solutions and navigation of the federal grants management process. Panelists include:

Discussion topics include updates to U.S. Coast Guard cybersecurity regulations, grant management and close-out, and evaluation process management.

On Monday, June 13, the Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) is holding an AAPA-members-exclusive listening session to document the data and analytical challenges faced by those making informed infrastructure investments locally. In this interactive dialogue with BTS, AAPA members are welcome to share infrastructure decision-making experiences and help shape a 'work plan' for prioritizing the Federal government’s support and funding requests to bolster communities in the decade ahead. Through Section 25003 Federal Support for Local Decision-making — a section of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (Pub. L. 117-58) — the BTS hosts listening sessions for reviewing, updating and developing data tools to assist in infrastructure investment decisions, as well as respond to and support stakeholders' needs. The BTS looks forward to engaging with AAPA members on topics of interest, as well as decision-making challenges and needs pertaining to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the nation's transportation network. The session will take place June 13, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. ET/10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. PT.

EagleRail Container Logistics (or ERCL) is an intermodal logistics company automating shorthaul container transportation systems that fully integrate with existing port and rail equipment and operations to improve the efficiency between ports and intermodal facilities. Headquartered in Chicago, Ill., with in-market agents in six international regions, EagleRail has filed two patents for Overhead Container Conveyance on Suspended Rail in the United States, China, EU, Brazil, India, and S. Africa, with approvals in the U.S., and the 2015 application dates being held and recognized in all other jurisdictions. EagleRail is the technology and business-model brand, with a development company, ER Logix, created to manage and execute the in-country SPV for each system.
 
 
   
The Port of Prince Rupert is adding 16 new vessel calls to its upcoming cruise schedule that has the potential to bring upwards of 46,000 additional cruise passengers – about a 330% increase from the previously published schedule. The Ruby Princess, operated by Princess Cruises, will include the port as a regular stop on the ship’s Alaska itinerary approximately every 10 days.
 
 
   
The Duluth Seaway Port Authority recently initiated its new waterborne container option through Duluth Cargo Connect, loading the first containerized cargoes of 2022 for export aboard the Spliethoff-chartered vessel Nunalik. The shipment consisted of approximately 4,500 tons of super-sacked kidney beans loaded onto the vessel in 200 20-foot containers bound for Europe.
 
 
   
Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Corporation (GLDD) has exercised its contract option to build a second 6,500-cubic-yard-capacity Trailing Suction Hopper Dredge, which will enhance the modernization of its hopper dredge fleet. The new vessel will be a sister ship to the  Galveston Island, currently under construction and set for delivery in early 2023. Anticipated delivery for this new vessel is the first quarter of 2025. The recent arrival of the container ship  Hakuna Matata at Norfolk International Terminals is the latest example of an expanding number of direct links between The Port of Virginia and important Asian trading centers. The arrival of the vessel marked the inaugural U.S. East Coast visit for the Singapore-based ocean carrier Sea Lead. Sea Lead recently announced the AEC service that will make a direct call to the East Coast via the Panama Canal with The Port of Virginia being the first port call.
 
 
   
The Ports of Indiana-Jeffersonville is celebrating the completion of $24 million in infrastructure enhancement projects. The port received a $10 million Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant in 2015 that provided partial funding for $24 million in rail infrastructure improvements and intermodal capabilities throughout the entire port.
 
The Port of Caddo-Bossier welcomed its newest tenant Sunny Point Aggregates last month. The company is building a new sand and proppants processing facility at the port. Walter Bigby,president of the Caddo-Bossier Port Commission, said, “This project is a win-win for the area." He added, “The dredging will create 40 new jobs for the area. At the same time, the dredging will help to alleviate flooding along the Red River.”

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, in partnership with DP World, announced the port authority-led Centerm Expansion Project and South Shore Access Project have been awarded the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI) Envision Platinum award, the highest rated award by ISI.
