Port Canaveral is building a new North Cargo Berth 8 to accommodate a growing cargo portfolio that includes commercial spacecraft components. The Port of San Diego celebrated the start of a $24 million public works project that will modernize its Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal.
Containerized cargo volume through the Port of Halifax in 2017 was 559,242 TEUs, up 16 percent over 2016. The Northwest Seaport Alliance's total container volumes grew one percent in January for a total of 3.7 million TEUs.  Cargo moving through the Port of Prince Rupert rose to a record volume of 24.1 million tons in 2017. The Port of South Louisiana has set a cargo-volume record in 2017, surpassing 2016’s tonnage of 294.9 million short tons by 4.4 percent.
JAXPORT has selected Frederick P. Wong Jr. as Chief Operating Officer. Wong has more than 20 years of experience in all facets of port operations and since 2014 has been responsible for all cruise, cargo and security operations as Assistant Port Director at PortMiami. Port of Tacoma commissioners welcomed their newest member, John McCarthy, as well as re-elected commissioners Dick Marzano and Don Meyer.
The new class of post-Panamax (PPX) shipping vessels made an inaugural visit to Port Canaveral. The PPX Ro/Ro vessel MOL’s Brooklands, is the first of its kind to call on Port Canaveral.
Port of Baltimore will begin new roll on/roll off service to New Zealand and Australia. Horizon Terminal Services, LLC is driving more automotive business to Port Everglades with a new long-term lease on 8.67 acres where the company plans to invest $630,000 for a new auto processing facility that would create a minimum of 25 local direct jobs. Ocean carrier World Direct Shipping announced plans to begin weekly sailings between the Port of Pensacola and the Port of Coatzacoalcos in Mexico’s state of Veracruz. The Trois-Rivières Port Authority (TRPA) completed the construction of Pier 9 and has completed an agreement with Logistec Stevedoring Inc. to operate the terminal.
