Port Houston employees volunteered at Port Houston Elementary to increase public awareness with students in the community regarding the port and its role in the local, regional and national economy.
AAPA Sustaining Member Cavotec manufactured the cable reels being used in new, record-breaking cranes at the Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) in Malaysia. The cranes are also the second tallest STS cranes currently in service. Port of Portland has created a new option for moving container freight by way of a railway partnership at Terminal 6. The new service, in partnership with BNSF Railway, will move containers between Portland and Seattle/Tacoma, where goods can be loaded onto ocean carriers. Port Tampa Bay has secured a deal with Integral Energy to bring a new fueling station. The project will occupy 5.7 acres of land on port property, and will also house a convenience store as well as a restaurant.
Montreal Port Authoriy President and CEO Sylvie Vachon awarded the Gold-Headed Cane to Captain Rakesh Kumar. Port of New Orleans President and CEO Brandy D. Christian appointed to the Trade and Transportation Advisory Council of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. Port of Portland has appointed Alice Cuprill-Comas as the new Commission President. 
Port of Grays Harbor sees increase in auto imports in 2017.  Six roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) vessels called Terminal 4, discharging imports and loading export autos as well as hundreds of pieces of over-high, over-wide equipment bound for various Pacific Rim countries The Great Lakes posts a record year for limestone trade. Shipments of limestone on the Great Lakes totaled 28 million tons in 2017, an increase of 6.4 percent compared to 2016.
Port of Long Beach services the largest China COSCO vessel to ever come to North America.  COSCO Shipping’s 14,500-TEU Himalayas berthed at the Pacific Container Terminal. Port of Sept-Iles celebrates first ship to arrive this year. Port of Trois-Rivieres sees visit from first vessel from an overseas port.
