New data released by the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) show that the U.S. cruise industry continued to expand in 2016, generating employment, income and other benefits throughout the U.S. economy.  
 
The Port of San Diego has selected a local contractor to begin work on the first phase of the Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal Redevelopment Project.

Port Corpus Christi, a U.S. Defense Department-designated Strategic Port since 1997, recently answered the call to support the deployment of the 1st Air Combat Brigade from Fort Hood (TX). SSA Marine has taken over stevedoring and terminal services for Matson at The Northwest Seaport Alliance’s West Sitcum Terminal in Tacoma.
 
The Port of Long Beach has awarded grants totaling $743,631 to fund nine air filtration projects aimed at improving the health of children, seniors and other vulnerable populations who live near the port.
 
Contanda Terminals LLC, a provider of bulk liquid storage and logistics services, has entered into a multi-year commercial agreement with the Port of Houston Authority for 339 acres of deep-water accessible property located on the Houston Ship Channel. 
 
Port of Oakland collected operating revenue totaling $358.7 million in Fiscal Year 2017, up 6.1 percent from the previous high  $338 million in FY 2015-16.  All three of the port’s business lines contributed positively to the latest results. Port Tampa Bay’s operating revenue reached a record $55.4 million in the fiscal year ending September 30. That eclipsed the previous high -  $51.3 million in FY 2014-15 - and beat by 12.6 percent the FY 2015-16 total of $49.2 million.

Cargo volume continues to break records at the Port of Long Beach, which moved more containers last month than any September in its history.  The 88 container vessels that called Port of Los Angeles last month averaged a record 8,679 TEUs per visit, up 22 percent compared to September 2016. 

Container imports set a September record last month at the Port of Oakland, rising 12.6 percent from a year ago to 79,135 TEUs. The Port of Virginia® reports September container throughput at its Hampton Roads maritime terminals totaled 237,816 TEUs, an increase of 8.2 percent compared to September 2016 that kept the port on track to another record year.
 
Randal Ogrydziak joined the Port of Beaumont October 2 as director of security, facilities, and regulatory compliance.  Governor Eric J. Holcomb has appointed Monica Newhouse-Rodriguez and Michael Browning to the Ports of Indiana Commission. Mark Price is the newly named director of marine terminals at the Port of Longview.  Pascagoula attorney Scott Corlew was sworn in October 10 as a board member of the Jackson County Port Authority, the governing agency of the Port of Pascagoula. The Port of Seattle has promoted Stephanie Jones Stebbins to managing director of its maritime division.
