AAPA's Professional Port Manager (PPM®) program is now open to applications for admission to the Class of 2021.

The application process requires the submission, preferably in electronic format, of a completed application form, letter of endorsement or sponsorship from the candidate’s chief executive officer, a current curriculum vita, a current job description, and an essay describing the candidate’s unique qualifications for the program to AAPA headquarters no later than February 1, 2017.

Port Manatee has promoted Denise Stufflebeam to senior director of business administration and finance, and Virginia Zimmermann to senior communications manager. The Port of Los Angeles has selected global supply chain and logistics expert Andrew Scott as its executive-in-residence fellow, a full-time, one-year leadership position hosted by FUSE Corps. Randa Coniglio, chief executive officer/president of the Port of San Diego, has been named "Executive Trailblazer" by San Diego Magazine. The Port of Vancouver USA is seeking applications for a permanent CEO/executive director. The position announcement has been posted on the port’s Job Center web page and the AAPA Career Center page and closes at 5 p.m., Pacific Time, Monday, October 24.
 
 
   
The Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) recently welcomed the world’s largest Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC), to Blount Island Marine Terminal.  Höegh Target, which can carry up to 8,500 car equivalent units (CEU), arrived in Jacksonville via the newly expanded Panama Canal locks. Longview claims to be the first known port in the United States to discharge wind energy blades directly from vessel to rail cars.

The Ventura County Air Pollution Control District has awarded the Port of Hueneme a $14,000 grant to install electric vehicle charging stations for public use. Olympia recently became the 18th U.S. port to enroll in the Green Marine environmental certification program.
 
At its recent meeting, the governing board of the Port of Hueneme approved a total of $67,000 for the purchase of specialized underwater equipment by the Ventura County Sheriff's Office. The project includes underwater communication equipment for the dive team as well as an inflatable portable tent that can serve as an emergency operations center or incident command post.
 
 
   
Georgia Port Authority’s terminal complex in the Port of Brunswick is growing and bustling with activity. In his annual State of the Port address, GPA Executive Director Griff Lynch announced a 100-acre expansion of the Colonel's Island auto terminal, and welcomed Logistec's completion of a wood pellet storage facility at GPA's East River Terminal.  At Port Tampa Bay, Port Logistics Refrigerated Services has begun site work for construction of a 134,000-square-foot on-dock cold storage warehouse for refrigerated imports and exports.
