An All Hazards Response Training National Level Exercise involving 108 emergency responders from seven local, county, state, regional and federal agencies was held May 18 in the Port of Baltimore. The responders teamed together in a test of their counter-WMD preparedness and readiness including response to suspicious activity, hostile environments and hazardous materials.

The Port of Seattle has promoted Elizabeth Leavitt to the newly creation position of Senior Director for Environment and Sustainability.
 
Fitch Ratings has affirmed the Port of Long Beach’s "AA" rating on its outstanding debt. Fitch also revised upward from "stable" to "positive" the rating outlook on approximately $9.72 million of outstanding Port of Palm Beach District revenue bonds, series 2005. The Trois-Rivières Port Authority points to net income of C$1.5 million and public and private sector investments amounting to C$50 million among  the highlights of its 2015 business year.
 
Master riggers employed by stevedoring company Portus recently offloaded four multimillion dollar helicopters at the heavy lift and specialty cargo berth at the Jacksonville Port Authority’s Blount Island Marine Terminal. Each helicopter will receive $10 million in upgrades at a manufacturing facility in the U.S. Southeast before returning to the Middle East via JAXPORT.
 
The Port of Vancouver USA is once again moving large wind energy components. A recently shipment of 190-foot-long blades employed the port workforce, tandem crane picks and special trucking equipment to move across the docks. 
 
The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority has approved G3 Terminal Vancouver’s application to construct a massive export grain terminal in North Vancouver on federal lands managed by the port authority. The approval is subject to 74 permit conditions to ensure the project does not result in significant adverse environmental effects.

A $50,000 contribution from the Port of Prince Rupert’s Community Investment Fund helped install electrical and irrigation services at the city's Sunken Gardens, a popular community asset and tourist attraction for more than 75 years.
 
 
   
The Port of South Louisiana has acquired sponsorship rights to the Blue Angel aircraft displayed at the entrance to the port’s Executive Regional Airport in Reserve (LA). The Grumman F-11 Tiger jet fighter flew with the U.S. Navy flight demonstration team in 1967.
 
Green Marine unveiled its participants’ environmental performance results for the year 2015 during its GreenTech 2016 conference last week in Québec city. The data show Green Marine participants maintained an overall average of 3.2 on a 1-to-5 scale, with Level 1 indicating monitoring of regulations and Level 5 reflecting excellence and leadership. Participants include ship owners, port authorities, Seaway corporations, terminal owners and shipyard operators.

The newly opened Jimmy DeLoach Connector will greatly expedite the movement of cargo to and from the Port of Savannah via Georgia’s highway system.
 
 
   
Public marine terminals in the Port of Baltimore handled a record 2.4 million short tons of autos, containers, forest products, ro/ro and other general cargo during first quarter 2016. Germany’s seatrade fell to 296.2 million metric tons, a 2.6 percent drop from 2014 and the lowest total since 2012, according to the federal statistics agency, Statistisches Bundesamt. Container traffic fell by an even steeper 4.6 percent to 15.2 million TEUs, the lowest annual total since 2008.
 
Throughput hit monthly highs in March and again in April at the Port of New Orleans’ Napoleon Avenue Container Terminal. This year’s container surge follows the port’s strong performance in 2015 when gains in metal imports and chemical exports help push general cargo to new highs.
