The Port of Seattle has hired Ron Peck as its new tourism director, with responsibility for finding innovative ways of increasing the number of visitors to the region. Port of San Diego Commissioner Ann Moore has been selected by the American Planning Association to receive the 2016 National Planning Excellence Award for a Planning Advocate.

This February, nearly 3 million tons of cargo crossed the Port of Houston Authority’s docks – a steady business, said Executive Director Roger Guenther that "demonstrates the port authority’s resiliency and the diversity of its operations." The North Carolina State Ports Authority (SPA) reports container movements this February through its Wilmington terminals increased 7.7 percent from a year ago. That followed an 8.4 percent increase in January and put the port on course for a second consecutive record year.
 
 
   
The Hawaii Department of Transportation’s Harbors Division (HDOT) has taken the next step in making reality of the planned Kapalama Container Terminal in Honolulu Harbor with the conveyance of a renovated pier facility to the University of Hawaii’s School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology. APM Terminals says it is pressing forward with the new deep-water semi-automated TEC 2 container terminal in the Port of Lázaro Cárdenas in the expectation that the 1.2 million TEU annual throughput of additional capacity will have an immediate impact on Mexico’s local and international trade growth.
 
The Port of South Louisiana's newly redesigned website, www.portsl.com, offers easier navigation, enhanced search capabilities, highlights from the port and the region, economic development information for potential investors, and resources for site selectors, industry, companies, government officials, and the community.
 
A newly awarded $50,000 grant from the Washington State Community Economic Revitalization Board (CERB) will partially fund the feasibility study/master plan for the Marine Trades Industrial Park at the Port of Port Angeles. The 16-acre site was formerly occupied by a plywood mill that ceased operations in December 2011.
 
Port of Long Beach
The Oakland Board of Port Commissioners has approved construction of waterfront improvements that will connect sections of the Bay Trail on port property along the Oakland Estuary. The Port of Port Arthur’s Camp SeaPort recently hosted its advance camp for area youth. Referred to as Phase II, it is a 6-week experience where local high school students gather one night per week to develop teamwork and leadership skills. The Port of Vancouver USA has added television and radio advertising to its community outreach program to help raise awareness of the port, its projects and its local partnerships.
 
In collaboration with the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG), as well as input from the Pacific Pilotage Authority (PPA) and BC Coast Pilots (BCCP), the Prince Rupert Port Authority has successfully established another aid to navigation with advanced technology capabilities at the mouth of Prince Rupert’s Fairview Channel.
 
As part of its long-standing commitment to environmental stewardship, Port Tampa Bay has again partnered with Audubon Florida, as well as state and federal agencies, to provide protection for nesting birds and their young in the Hillsborough Bay area.
