Port People: Long Beach, Port Angeles
The governing board of the Port of Long Beach has approved the promotions of appointments of Maurina Lee to director of finance, Robert Seidel to director of surveys and Allison Yoh to director of transportation. Port Angeles port commissioners have elected Steve Burke to a fill a commissioner vacancy.  He will complete the term of former Commissioner Jim Hallett until a new commissioner is elected during the November 2017 general election.

The Port Authority of Guam (PAG) recently took delivery of four new FEMA Port Security Grant Program-funded generators to provide backup electricity in the event of the loss of power on an island that is home to major U.S. military installations and 172,000 civilians.
 
Port Traffic Metrics: Miami, Seattle/Tacoma
Containerized cargo volumes are growing at PortMiami, thanks in part to the completion of more than $1 billion worth of capital projects. Cargo continued to return to the Puget Sound gateway in February, with container volumes through Seattle and Tacoma facilities of the Northwest Seaport Alliance jumping 21 percent compared to February 2015.

People Moving: New York City
New York’s Citywide Ferry Service is on track to launch next year. The service will be priced at the cost of a single subway ride, operate from 21 landings along six routes across the city, and is expected to carry an estimated 4.6 million riders per year after it becomes fully operational.
 
Environment: Los Angeles
The Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners has authorized plans by SA Recycling to replace an older diesel mobile crane with a new mobile crane that will initially be operated with a cleaner Tier 4 diesel engine before transitioning to an all-electric mode. The crane will be used at SA Recycling’s scrap metal recycling, processing and export operations at the Port of Los Angeles.
