The Prince Rupert Port Authority and terminal operator DP World have agreed to study further expansion of the Fairview Container Terminal that would boost capacity to more than 2 million TEUs annually.
 
 
   
CMA CGM Benjamin Franklin, an 18,000-TEU vessel operated by French ocean carrier CMA CGM, will become the largest container ship ever to call a U.S. port when it visits Los Angeles on December 26 and Oakland five days later. Florida International Terminal LLC  celebrated its 10th anniversary at Port Everglades by renewing its marine terminal lease for 10 more years. The Port of Santa Marta’s ro/ro cargo processing subsidiary FAST TEMINAL, has set what the Colombian port claims is a record for the Americas by discharging 632 vehicles in just an hour and fifty minutes. Delaware’s Port of Wilmington took delivery of its first breakbulk shipment of Chilean winter fruit with the docking on December 15 of m/v Pacific Mermaid.
 
 
   
Port Metro Vancouver said farewell to the last ship of its 2015 cruise season with the December 16 sailing of the Ruby Princess from Canada Place. The 2015 season began early and ended later than usual this year due to new itineraries to Hawaii and the California coast by Princess Cruises, in addition to the traditional Alaskan itineraries and associated re-positioning options offered by various cruise lines out of Vancouver.

Betsy Benac has been elected to a one-year term as chairwoman of the Manatee County Port Authority, the governing board of Port Manatee. William T. Bergeron is the newly-elected chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans. Steven Plate – a 30-year employee of The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey  – has been promoted to the newly created position of chief of major capital projects. Port of Tacoma commissioners named Connie Bacon to lead the 2016 commission at their December 17 meeting. Commissioners Don Johnson and Clare Petrich also were sworn in following their November re-elections.
 
 
   
Midwest Energy Resources Company (MERC) transshipped its 500 millionth ton of coal on December 14, 2015, with the loading at its Superior (WI) terminal of Interlake Steamship Company’s M/V Paul R. Tregurtha for the DTE Electric Company. The MERC terminal began operations in the Port of Duluth/Superior in 1976.  The Port of Houston Authority is reporting cargo tonnage and revenue gains continued through November among recent milestone achievements that also include surpassing 2 million TEUs for the first year ever in December.
 
Container throughput at the Port of Los Angeles totaled 709,968 TEUs in November, a 7 percent increase from a year ago.  Container volumes shipped through the Northwest Seaport Alliance’s terminals in Seattle and Tacoma improved 6 percent year to date in November—the ninth consecutive month of growth. The Port of Oakland reports November containerized import volume jumped 8.7 percent from a year ago, giving the port its eighth increase in nine months.
 
 
   
Port Tampa Bay and its law enforcement partner, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), unveiled a new marine security vessel during a ceremony December 15 on the waterfront near the Tampa Convention Center.
