PhilaPort announced the acquisition of the 152-acre Mustin Yard property from Norfolk Southern Corporation on September 30, 2025. Adjacent to the SouthPort Marine Terminal, the site represents the last available land with deep water, rail, and highway access and is seen as critical for the Port’s long-term growth. The acquisition aligns with PhilaPort’s Strategic Plan: Destination 2040 and will expand cargo capacity, attract new business, and support job creation across the region. The property includes a fully developed intermodal transfer facility that PhilaPort and Norfolk Southern plan to activate, enhancing logistics connectivity for maritime and rail freight. Leaders from PhilaPort, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and Norfolk Southern emphasized the deal as a transformative step for economic growth, workforce development, and global trade competitiveness.

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority has awarded RiverFlow Dredging a long-term contract, beginning in 2026, to conduct annual maintenance dredging of the deep-sea navigation channel in the South Arm of the Fraser River. The agreement spans a minimum of 12 years and involves removing 3 to 4.5 million cubic metres of sediment annually to keep shipping lanes navigable and safe for vessels serving four major Port of Vancouver terminals. Annual dredging is critical due to sediment buildup caused by strong currents and seasonal freshets, which can create navigational hazards and increase flooding risks. With over $100 billion in international trade moving through the Fraser River each year, the program supports safe marine operations and complies with federal environmental requirements.

The Port of Vancouver USA will begin construction of a replacement dock at Terminal 1 on October 1, 2025, following 18 months of shoreline stabilization work. The new dock will support a planned 40,000-square-foot over-water public market, with initial piling installation scheduled through January 31, 2026, during an in-water work window designed to minimize impacts to salmon. Nearly 1,000 aged wooden pilings have been removed and will be replaced with 198 structural steel pilings, along with measures such as bubble curtains to reduce underwater noise impacts on aquatic life. Dock construction is expected to continue into 2027, with public market construction anticipated between 2028 and 2030.
