The American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) has submitted official comments to the U.S. Department of Transportation in response to a Request for Information regarding the upcoming federal surface transportation reauthorization (STR).
AAPA President and CEO Cary Davis emphasized the importance of long-term infrastructure investments to strengthen the American maritime industry. The association is calling for $10.9 billion over five years in advanced appropriations for the Port Infrastructure Development Program (PIDP), which historically has leveraged significant non-federal matching funds. Additional priorities include equitable funding for ports, increased formula funding for infrastructure, adjustments to Build America, Buy America (BABA) regulations, and permitting reform. These recommendations have also been shared with Congress in advance of legislative development.
