"At Port Corpus Christi, we are proud to support the operations of our United States Military. Our port facilitates commerce to the world, and stands ready to back our military for the swift movement of equipment for our troops. We are grateful of the recognition from LTC Bane, and the 842nd Transportation Battalion," said Port Commission Chair Charles W. Zahn, Jr.
Since its designation in December 1997 as a Strategic Port, Corpus Christi has accommodated numerous military cargo operations at its facilities. They include an intermodal rail complex purposely designed for military cargo and named for Lt. Col. Joseph Allen "Al" Speight (U.S. Army-ret), the port’s industrial development manager until his death in 2009 and a former commander of the Military Traffic Management Command’s port unit in Beaumont (TX). Al was also past chair of the AAPA National Defense Committee.
