Port of Belledune Welcomes First Ship of 2017

The Belledune Port Authority (BPA) officially greeted Captain Sergiy Dolmatov, Master of the Tundra, the first ship to lay anchor at the Port of Belledune in 2017.
The Tundra is registered in Limassol, Cyprus, and her last port of call before arriving in Belledune was Fortalexa, Brazil. The vessel’s agent is Calypso Marine Agency (CMA), represented by Robert Lagace. The Tundra docked at the Port of Belledune on January 5, 2017, where the vessel is currently loading approximately 22,000 MT of wood pellets. The next stop for the vessel will be Hull, UK.
The Director of Marketing & Business Development at the BPA, Jenna MacDonald, presented Captain Dolmatov with a commemorative gift at the Belledune Port Authority’s Administrative offices.
"Wood pellets fall within our forestry sector which is a very important sector to the Port as it contributes to the development of the operation," said Denis Caron, President & CEO at the BPA. "The forestry sector is one of our five key sectors. The other four sectors include energy, agriculture, mining & minerals, and the modular sector."
In 2016 the Port received a total of nine vessels that served the forestry sector. Within that same year, the Port handled 226,304 MT of forestry cargo.
The Tundra is the first vessel of many which are expected to lay anchor at the Port of Belledune this year. Last year, the port played host to 97 vessels, which is 26 more than what they received in 2015. The Port also handled approximately 2,027,431 MT of bulk cargo, which is up 14% from the previous year.
Tropical Shipping Begins Service from Halifax
Tropical Shipping began its service from the Port of Halifax, Nova Scotia on January 9. The Vega Omega voyage 0011 departed Halterm International Container Terminal, bringing improved import and export connectivity to customers in Florida, The Bahamas, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.
At 148 metres length, the Vega Omega, a 1,118 TEU capacity geared-vessel, will handle more than 550 containers through Halifax in peak-season, including more than 200 refrigerated containers for export.

"We are committed to our Maritime customers and to fully maximizing our extensive Caribbean network. With our new vessels due to start service in June 2018, Tropical Shipping is working closely with Halterm, CN and the Port of Halifax to build on our specialized reefer trade, all the while enhancing our reputation for loyal customer service."
