AAPA Port Security and IT Seminar & Expo, July 20-22, Arlington, VA

Plan now to attend the AAPA Port Security and IT Seminar & Exposition, July 20-22, at The Westin Crystal City in Arlington (VA). That’s just across the Potomac River from Washington (DC).

An outstanding program has been developed by the AAPA Security and Infotech Committees and their chairmen, Joe Lawless of the Massachusetts Port Authority and Lance Kaneshiro of the Port of Los Angeles.

The agenda was organized with the objective of stimulating a fruitful exchange of views and concerns between ports and federal agencies on key cybersecurity and related issues. Cross cutting themes of joint concern to techies and security types are covered in plenary sessions, including an introductory panel on Security and IT in the maritime environment and a later panel on the convergence of physical & network cyber vulnerabilities.

Concurrent sessions focus on topics tailored to the more specialized interests of each group - port security grants, emerging security technologies, cybersecurity reporting requirements for facility security officers, active shooter contingencies (with particular focus on the Washington Navy Yard incident), the human dimension of cybersecurity, cybersecurity in maritime environment, cloud computing,  and mobile access to port and maritime data.

There will be keynote and intelligence briefings by representatives of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, a presentation on the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s implementation of the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act and Automated Indicator Sharing and a look at current issues of security and crime in the cruise industry.

Tabletop exhibits on Thursday, July 21, and event sponsorships afford excellent opportunities to draw attention to products and services. Speaker slots have been set aside for vendor presentations. To learn more, contact Ed O’Connell at (703) 706-4709 or eoconnell@aapa-ports.org.
