JAXPORT Selects Paul Soares to Head Facilities Development

Paul Soares, P.E, will be joining the Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) May 16 as senior director, facilities development. In this position, Mr. Soares will direct the port’s marine and landside infrastructure development and coordinate engineering and construction operations including all new construction and capital improvements. He also will coordinate with federal, state and local agencies involved in the management and completion of JAXPORT’s major growth projects.

Mr. Soares is a licensed professional engineer with extensive experience in senior executive positions, specializing in construction and facilities management as well as contracting and conservation. Most recently, he has served as the assistant superintendent of operations for Duval County Public Schools in Jacksonville, overseeing a number of departments for the district including transportation, maintenance, facilities construction, purchasing, risk management and logistics.

A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Mr. Soares served as a Civil Engineer Corps Officer and Seabee, completing engineering assignments around the world. He retired from the Navy after 24 years with the rank of captain. He holds a Master of Engineering degree from the University of Florida and a Master of Arts degree in National Policy and Strategic Study from the U.S. Naval War College.
