Tampico is one of Mexico’s leading east coast ports, with two public terminals, six private terminals, several marine oil rig construction yards, and berth depths ranging upward to 10.4 meters/34 feet at mean low tide. Commercial traffic in 2013 consisted of 534 ship calls and more than 6.1 million metric tons of bulk and general cargo, including 4.5 million tons of petroleum and petroleum products. Steel, wood and containerized merchandise are among its other cargos. The port hosts 20 regular shipping line services, with connections to more than 100 countries.
