Energy & Environment Seminar Attracts More Than 100

Energy & Environment Seminar Attracts More than 100

AAPA’s first Energy and Environment Seminar, held in Chicago on September 16-18, was a great success, attracting more than 100 participants. This timely program examined how ports are finding and implementing solutions to environmental and energy challenges. Experts discussed shore power and energy technology deployment, and a session of rapid-fire presentations highlighted recent developments in air emissions reduction technology. Several ports discussed their creation and use of sustainable design guidelines, and industry leaders showcased stormwater treatment technology. Attendees heard examples of how to engage successfully with local environmental groups. The last half-day of the seminar focused on "Big Data," examining how big data is being used to make decisions at the micro level (gate and terminal operations), the macro level (worldwide industry trends) and everything in between (port operations, shipping line decisions).
