The Board of Commissioners of the
Port of Brownsville on March 26 unanimously approved the port’s TIGER IV grant agreement with the U.S. Department of Transportation. The $12 million grant will be administered by the Maritime Administration and will be used to construct an all-purpose cargo dock. Port money will cover the balance of the estimated $27,525,000 construction cost. Construction is scheduled to begin in June 2013 and be completed by the end of 2014.
Cargo Dock 16 will be the port’s second heavy-load capacity dock. It will support the port’s efforts to grow its container and bulk cargo businesses.
