Port Tampa Bay Customer Tampa Tank Inc. /Florida Structural Steel expansion

One of Port Tampa Bay’s largest customers, Tampa Tank, Inc./Florida Structural Steel, plans to expand its operation and in the process create 108 jobs, Florida Gov. Rick Scott announced during an on-site visit last week. Twenty-four of those jobs will be at the company’s headquarter facility in Ybor City and 84 jobs at its manufacturing facility at the port authority’s Port Redwing complex in southern Hillsborough County.

As part of the expansion, the company is investing $18 million in infrastructure and facilities, which will include retrofitting an existing 50,000-square-foot building and constructing an entirely new 120,000-square-foot building on 25 acres at Port Redwing.

"Tampa Tank and Florida Structural Steel have long been a supporters of the Tampa community and Port Tampa Bay," said Paul Anderson, Port Tampa Bay president and CEO. "We applaud their growth and expansion, and look forward to the new jobs that will impact this region for generations to come. These companies represent the finest of our customer base, as they are huge manufacturers and exporters of extremely unique and high-quality products. We look forward to supporting them for many years to come."

Tampa Tank contributes to Port Tampa Bay’s export business lines. With this expansion, the company will increase the port’s steel imports while also expanding fabricated steel exports.

Tampa Tank was established in 1953, and acquired Florida Structural Steel in 1984. The company provides customized design, repair, and fabrication of welded steel products to customers nationally and globally. The Tampa-based company currently employs 255 Floridians and is exercising a 20-year lease agreement, with three 20-year renewal options.

"Today’s announcement signifies Tampa Tank’s strong commitment to our community, and the remarkable success our company is enjoying nationally and globally," said David Hale, CEO of Tampa Tank, Inc./Florida Structural Steel. "We appreciate the strong support we’ve received from our public and private partners, particularly Port Tampa Bay."
