Hueneme Awarded $532,020 in Federal Security Grant Program

The Port of Hueneme will receive more than $532,020 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through the FY 2015 Port Security Grant Program.

The funds will provide multi-functional applications protecting critical port and regional infrastructure from terrorism, enhance maritime domain awareness, improve port-wide maritime security risk management, and maintain or re-establish maritime security mitigation protocols that support port recovery and resiliency as well as enhance the response capabilities of the port’s regional law enforcement partners.

"This funding comes at a critical time as we continue to partner with our community law enforcement partners to ramp up security and maximize the safety of the citizens we serve," said Port of Hueneme CEO & Port Director Kristin Decas. "A special thank you to Congresswoman Brownley, who has been most instrumental in leveraging the legislation necessary to ensure all ports receive essential funding for important security projects."

Port Manatee Awarded Federal Security Grant to Support Emergency Recovery of Operations

Port Manatee has been awarded a $326,250 federal security grant to be used in efforts to support the port’s recovery and resiliency capabilities.

The funding, through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Port Security Grant Program, was announced July 30 by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The federal funds and the port’s $108,750 cost share will pay for portable generator units and their integration to critical buildings. "These generator units will allow Port Manatee to swiftly restore operations following an emergency event – such as a major hurricane or terrorist incident – that results in loss of the port’s normal power supply," said David St. Pierre, the port’s director of seaport security. "We are greatly appreciative to receive this funding, which further bolsters our recovery and resiliency capabilities."

Port Manatee has advanced approximately $10 million in security-related projects during the past 10 years, including its Transportation Worker Identification Credential-based access control system, which fully meets DHS requirements. Port Manatee has completely implemented the federally mandated electronic verification requirements of the TWIC program, including biometric reading.
