Port of Everett Embarks on $5.2 Million Marina Improvement Project

The Port of Everett Commission earlier this month awarded a $5.2 million contract for completion of the second phase of its Central Marina Improvements project.

Construction activity will kick-off in September and conclude by the close of the in-water work window on February 15, 2016.

Specifically entailed are:
  • Demolition of existing Central Marina I-Dock, O-Dock, and a portion of P-Dock
  • New Central I-Dock and utility/service upgrades
  • Boathouse realignment with temporary and final relocation
  • East Marina Bulkhead Replacement: Segment C, approximately 450 linear feet of new bulkhead and adjacent interim public access path and railing system continuation
These permitted marina improvements are part of the port’s phased plan to renovate its marina facilities over the next 30 years. The Marina Recapitalization Plan identifies and priorities upgrades throughout the marina to be implemented in the most efficient and cost effective manner.

The first phase of Central Marina improvements was completed in conjunction with the Everett Shipyard environmental cleanup project, which wrapped up in June and included removal of aging marine infrastructure and reconstruction of Segments A and B of the bulkhead. Click here for more information.

Construction of the rest of the bulkhead is a major requirement for constructing Fisherman’s Harbor. Fisherman’s Harbor is the first phase of the port’s Waterfront Place Central development venture. This district will be a year-round hub of activity that includes 204 apartment units, 120-room hotel, five commercial buildings and numerous retail and waterfront restaurant spaces. Key public features include: a continuous public trail, floating activity barges, a dock walk for visitors to get down to touch the water, a large park and a small boat course.

Guam: $2 Million USDA Community Facility Direct Loan for Cargo Handling Equipment

The Port Authority of Guam (PAG) announced July 15 it had closed and signed a $2 million, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Community Facility Direct Loan. The money will fund the acquisition of eight yard tractors, four 5-ton forklifts and terminal yard maintenance equipment.

The USDA Community Facilities Direct Loan & Grant Program provides affordable funding to develop essential community facilities in rural areas. Learn more.

The USDA loan combined with a $12 million loan contracted in December 2012 for the purchase of three gantry cranes as well as the $10 million Marine Service Life Extension SLE Loan represent a total of $24 million investment by the port authority in its facilities and operations.

With the anticipated completion this fall of the $50 million port modernization project administered by Maritime Administration, the port will have received a combined $74 million in upgrades and improvements. These projects constitute the single largest investment in the history of the Port of Guam since the facilities were built by the U.S. Navy in the 1960s.

"The signing of this loan agreement is yet another significant step in moving the port forward," said Port Authority General Manager Joanne Brown. "The port stands committed to addressing the need for equipment and more importantly, providing our port professionals the resources they require to operate our seaport in an efficient manner."
