Port Statistics: Baltimore, Saint John

Two East Coast ports report significant cargo growth.
  • March general cargo tonnage and container box movements set monthly records at the Port of Baltimore, beating prior year totals by 14 percent and 49 percent, respectively. The data, as reported by the Maryland Port Administration, show general cargo up 14 percent from a year ago to 913,136 short tons. The 49,971 containers (77,772 TEUs) exceeded last year’s count by 49 percent.

  • Port Saint John’s annual meeting on May 28 highlighted strategic business growth, community commitment and the port’s contribution to the economy of New Brunswick. Among other things, Port Saint John reported hefty increases in cruise terminal venue rentals, container movements and dry bulk cargo as well as net income from operations of nearly C$1.7 million in fiscal 2014.
