Coming Industry Events: Strategic Ports, Green Port Technologies

Strategic Ports Workshop

The National Port Readiness Network (NPRN) and the AAPA are cosponsoring a Strategic Ports Workshop at U.S. Department of Transportation headquarters in Washington, D.C., on April 22 (the day following the AAPA Spring Conference). The workshop is a special project of the AAPA National Defense Committee, which is chaired by Chris Fisher, executive director of the Port of Beaumont.

The 2015 Workshop theme is "Back to Basics – A Focus on Readiness." Click here for a detailed agenda. Also attached are (1) a registration form (which, as noted, must be completed and submitted to Steve Jackson at the U.S. Maritime Administration no later than April 10, 2015) and (2) DOT HQ driving directions, parking options and nearby hotels.

The NPRN consists of 11 federal agencies with responsibilities for support of the secure movement of military forces through the 16 commercial ports and the 35 alternates that comprise the National Strategic Port system. NPRN members include: U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD), U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC), Military Sealift Command (MSC), U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), U.S. Army Forces Command (USFORSCOM), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). 

Mexico and Panama Green Port Technologies Reverse Trade Mission

The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) is sponsoring a Reverse Trade Mission (RTM) for a delegation of port officials from Mexico and Panama focused on green ports. Dates are: March 16-25 in Miami, Houston and Los Angeles.

The goal of this RTM is to familiarize these officials with U.S. technology and service capabilities for environmentally friendly port operations, along with regulatory and related environmental best practices for the ports sector. Delegates will meet with environmental engineering and consulting providers, service and maintenance providers, financiers and U.S. operators/suppliers of related U.S. equipment and services.
