2014 International Cruise Season Sets Record at the Port of Québec

The Port of Québec welcomed 180,836 cruise ship passengers and crew members during the season that began last May 10 and ended on November 12. That was up from 162,000 passengers and crew members in 2013 and concluded the port’s longest international cruise season ever.

"It has really been a strong year for the Port of Québec," said Mario Girard, President and CEO, Québec Port Authority. "Remaining the busiest port for international cruises on the St. Lawrence, Québec is also, now more than ever, a unique and popular destination among cruise passengers. "This generates economic benefits for Québec and the region. The contribution from port stakeholders was exceptional this year and we sincerely thank them."

Port Tampa Bay on December 16 hosted the first of six port calls the cruise ship AIDAvita will make during the 2014-2015 season.

AIDAvita was launched in 2002 and can accommodate up to 1,266-passenger capacity. The striking design painted on AIDAvita with bright red lips on the bow and large eyes on either side gives the ship with a distinctive look.

The ship’s first visit represents a departure from typical Tampa port calls, as AIDA Cruises has added Tampa Bay as a unique experience for its largely German clientele. The AIDA Cruises port calls will expose German tourists to bay area attractions such as The Florida Aquarium, Busch Gardens and Tampa Bay’s beaches.

AIDA Cruises’ entry into the Tampa market means that Port Tampa Bay now enjoys cruise passenger activity from five of the world’s most popular cruise lines.

Headquartered in Rostock on Germany’s Baltic coast, AIDA Cruises is a Carnival Corporation company.
