The Port of Adak, a recently decommissioned U.S. Navy base centrally located in the Aleutian Islands, is served by a protected deep-water and ice-free harbor. It was acquired by The Aleut Corporation, an Alaskan Native Corporation and includes substantial port and support building infrastructure, which is being incorporated into a development strategy for a large scale commercial port.

Adak can immediately serve as a support base for offshore oil development in the Arctic and also has potential as a mega-port transshipment hub due to its intersection of the rapidly expanding Northern Sea route and the existing Great Circle route between the North American West Coast and Asia. The port is also ideally located as an emergency response center. The Port of Adak will be seeking partners and operators as part of its development plan.
