Port Authority Supports Prince Rupert Seafarers' Centre

The Prince Rupert Port Authority on June 25 celebrated the fourth annual International Day of the Seafarer with a donation that will help enhance services provided to the hundreds of international seafarers who disembark commercial vessels at the Port of Prince Rupert every year.

The port authority presented a cheque for $5,000 to the Prince Rupert Seafarers’ Centre, supporting the work of local volunteers who provide services and amenities to visiting crew members at the storefront location.

"Through our work at the terminals and on the water, we meet seafarers from around the world," said Bernie Egan, captain of the port authority’s patrol vessel. "Their work involves long periods of isolation while at sea, so Prince Rupert’s Seafarers’ Centre is a welcome beacon for those visiting our city. Its volunteers have demonstrated hospitality and care to literally thousands of oceangoing men and women, and we’re proud to support their selfless service through this contribution."
