Port People: Jacksonville, Port Angeles, Port Everglades

The board of directors of the Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) on June 30 elected officers for FY 2014-2015. Port Angeles has named Jennifer States its director of business development. Jim Pyburn has been selected to direct Port Everglades’ Business Development Division.

JAXPORT Board of Directors Elects Officers

The board of directors of the Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) on June 30 elected officers for FY 2014-2015. They include: 

  • Chairman: John J. Falconetti
  • Vice Chairman: Dr. John Allen Newman
  • Treasurer: Robert F. Spohrer
  • Secretary: James P. Citrano 

Mr. Falconetti is president of The Drummond Press Inc. Mr. Newman is senior pastor at The Sanctuary at Mt. Calvary. Mr. Spohrer is president at Spohrer & Dodd. Mr. Citrano is retired managing director at CBRE Group's Jacksonville office.

Other board members are immediate past Chairman Joe York, president, AT&T Florida, Puerto Rico & U.S. Virgin Islands; former Ambassador Nancy Soderberg, president and CEO, Soderberg Solutions; and Edward Fleming Jr., retired CEO/president, Atlantic Marine Holding Co., LLC.

The board also selected Mr. Fleming to serve as JAXPORT’s liaison with the North Florida Transportation Planning Organization for the upcoming year. The North Florida TPO is the independent regional transportation planning agency for Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns counties.

JAXPORT’s unpaid, appointed seven-member Board of Directors provides policy guidance. Four board members are appointed by the mayor of Jacksonville and three by the governor of Florida.

Port Angeles Hires Director of Business Development

Port Angeles Welcomes Director of Business Development

Jennifer States has joined the Port of Port Angeles as director of business development. In that role, she is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to encourage new business development with the objective of stimulating job growth, coordinating business retention, promoting expansion activities within Clallam County and contributing to the port’s overall goals and strategies. Her first day on the job was June 30.

Ms. States comes to the port with 15 years of experience in energy and environmental issues, with emphasis on business and economic development and expertise in wind energy. Most recently, she was employed by Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) as program manager for wind and water power technologies, as well as renewable energy for national security. She received the Women of Wind Energy’s Rising Star award in 2010, partially due to her efforts implementing the Treasury’s Section 1603 renewable energy grant in lieu of tax credits. This incentive has supported construction of more than 96,000 renewable energy projects.

Jim Pyburn to Direct Port Everglades’ Business Development Division

Port Everglades has picked Jim Pyburn to direct its Business Development Division. He is moving to South Florida from Port Tampa Bay where he was director of marketing and business development for Latin America.

"Jim has all the great qualities we were looking for to lead our Business Development team – outstanding leadership skills, knowledge of international trade and multi-lingual communication," said Port Everglades Chief Executive & Port Director Steven Cernak, PPM®.

Mr. Pyburn began his career in the international trade and transportation industry in 1977 with U.S. Lines, where he held positions of increasing responsibility in the company’s Houston, Chicago and New York offices. For three years, he was a partner in a freight forwarding/customhouse brokerage company in Houston. After selling the company, he worked sequentially for Tropical Shipping, Tec Marine Lines and Emery Worldwide.

Mr. Pyburn earned his a bachelor’s degree from the College of Science and Mathematics at the University of Houston and speaks fluent Spanish.

The Port Everglades Business Development Division is responsible for developing marketing and sales strategies to draw additional cruise business and containerized, dry and break bulk cargo volumes to Port Everglades. Staff provides customer service to the cruise and cargo shipping communities and markets Foreign-Trade Zone No. 25 and other port facilities to the maritime community. The port's Corporate & Community Relations Section is part of the Business Development Division under Mr. Pyburn’s leadership.
