Everett Receives Presidential Award for Export Service

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker presented the Port of Everett with the President’s "E" Award for Export Service at a May 28 ceremony in Washington, D.C. The "E" Awards recognize "persons, firms or organizations that contribute significantly in the effort to increase United States exports."

"The Port of Everett has demonstrated a sustained commitment to export expansion," wrote Secretary Pritzker in her congratulatory letter to Port Executive Director John Mohr. "The 'E' Awards Committee was very impressed with the Port of Everett’s commitment to finding unique solutions for logistics challenge in exporting oversized equipment."

Located just 25 miles north of Seattle, Everett is a natural deep-water port that specializes in handling over-dimensional, high value cargoes for the construction and manufacturing industries, including components for the 747, 767 and 777 jetliners imported for assembly and subsequent export from Everett by The Boeing Company.

"The Port of Everett is a national strategic asset that plays a critical role in achieving the President’s goal of doubling exports by 2020," said Mr. Mohr. "The Port of Everett is not a throughput port, but rather a value port. We focus our operations very specifically on supporting the aerospace, construction, manufacturing and energy industries."

In addition to aircraft parts, the port handles heavy equipment, machinery and mining equipment manufactured primarily by Midwest companies and transported to Everett mostly by rail.

According to the U.S. Customs and Foreign Trade Division, Everett generated $22.7 billion worth of exports in 2013. Trade-related activities support more than 34,000 jobs in the region, and generate $4.1 billion in annual revenue and $276 million in state and local taxes.

"It was such an honor to represent the Port of Everett in this awards ceremony," declared Port Commissioner Tom Stiger. "Every day we see the growth of our clients’ businesses, due in large part to exporting. This growth has enabled our clients to add jobs and support their local communities as they expand their bottom line."
