AAPA, port authority members and their stakeholders, and industry partners hit the ground running this past week during Infrastructure Week 2014 creating awareness for the importance and value of infrastructure in the United States. Tying into the national campaign, #RebuildRenew, AAPA created a social media campaign called "Infrastructure Delivers" designed to highlight the importance of our nation’s infrastructure with regard to the economy, imports, exports, jobs and household income. The campaign reached thousands of people including the media, legislators, government officials and the general public who heard our message loud and clear.

AAPA President and CEO Kurt Nagle also spoke on a panel with American Trucking Associations CEO Bill Graves and Association of American Railroads CEO Ed Hamberger, making a compelling case that intermodal transportation depends on a strong national infrastructure. The audience included 50 elite media and trade publications.

Additionally, Mr. Nagle was interviewed by Sirius XM Radio "Road Dog Trucking News" host Mark Willis on the importance of funding transportation infrastructure connecting with our ports. Mr. Nagle said that if the necessary federal investments aren't made to improve the efficiency of moving goods into and out of America’s seaports, "the nation stands to lose almost $500 billion in export revenue and almost $1 trillion in trade revenue through 2020." He went on to say, "Conversely, if we do make those investments, America stands to gain 3.5 million jobs, which would put a big dent in our unemployment rate." Road Dog has more than a million subscribers in the United States.
