March Container Volumes Skyrocket at the Port of Los Angeles

The Port of Los Angeles reports March container volume, measured in TEUs, jumped 34 percent from a year ago, in part due to the timing of multi-week Chinese New Year factory closures, which occurred in Asia on January 31. (Chinese New Year varies from year to year; last year it fell on February 10, 2013. Next year it will fall on February 18, 2015.)

This year’s data show gains of 42 percent by inbound loads, 21 percent by outbound loads, 31 percent for empty containers and an increase overall of 34 percent to 675,274 TEUs from 503,168 TEUs in March 2012. Click here for current and past data container counts for the Port of Los Angeles.
