Long Beach Seeks Candidates for Executive Director
The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners has contracted with Baltimore-based Boyden global executive search to find candidates for the job of executive director. The position oversees the day-to-day operations, modernization projects and long-range strategic planning of the Port of Long Beach. The port is administered by the harbor department of the city of Long Beach.
Al Moro, formerly the harbor department’s chief harbor engineer, has served as the acting executive director since July 2013, when J. Christopher Lytle departed for a position in Oakland.
The harbor department’s executive director represents the port to a variety of national and international constituencies in the maritime industry, as well as to elected and appointed officials. The executive director works closely with and under the direction of the board of harbor commissioners to put forward proposed policies, rules, ordinances or measures for the port.
The harbor commission selected Boyden in a special meeting on February 11 and three days later approved a contract in an amount not to exceed $127,000 for executive recruitment services.
The commissioners will work with the firm to set the schedule for candidates to be considered by the board.
